Relief Society has a rich heritage of sisterhood, watchcare, charitable service, and spiritual instruction. All women ages 18 and older are members. Relief Society was founded by the Prophet Joseph Smith on March 17, 1842, in Nauvoo, Illinois, and today includes more than 5.6 million women in over 170 countries. Relief Society serves under the guidance of the priesthood as the Lord’s organization for women.
